This policy explains how Dekar collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Dekar mobile app, website, and related services (the “Services”).

Information we collect

• Account information: your email address, display name, and identifiers supplied by Google, Apple, or our email sign-in provider. Dekar no longer keeps the profile picture from your sign-in provider: it was never shown anywhere in the app, so it is not stored.
• People and celebration information: names, relationships, birthdays, preferences, notes, gift ideas, charity choices, messages, and care plans you choose to add.
• Your own birthday wish: if you write one, your birthday and what you would like for it, in your own words. Your birth year is optional and is kept private unless you turn on sharing it. The wish is stored against your account and is shown to nobody until you send somebody a link to it.
• Circle activity: Smara Circle membership, questions, answers, invitations, service activities, and participation.
• Technical information: device, app version, authentication events, security logs, and diagnostic data needed to keep the Services reliable and secure.
• Notification choices: reminder settings and, if enabled, a device notification token.
• Subscription information: the Dekar Plus product you selected and the purchase, renewal, and entitlement status Apple makes available to the app. Apple processes the payment; Dekar does not receive your full card or bank-account details.
• The city you choose to give:a city you may add to your profile, and a city an organiser may add to a circle, so that public circles can be found by the people near them. This is a word you type. Dekar has no location permission and no location library: it never reads your device’s position, never records coordinates, and cannot tell where you are. Leaving it blank means discovery simply shows you everywhere.
• Requests to join a circle:if you ask to join a public circle, that request and any note you write are shown to that circle’s organiser, along with your display name, so they can decide.
• Reports you file:if you report a public circle, Dekar keeps which circle, the reason you chose, anything you wrote, and that it was you who reported it, so a person can look into it. The circle’s organiser is never told who reported them. If you hide a circle, Dekar records that you did so, in order to keep it out of your results.
• Contacts you import: if you choose to import birthdays, Dekar reads only the name and birthday of contacts that have a birthday saved, and only the ones you select. It does not read phone numbers, email addresses, or any other field, and it does not upload your address book.

What our App Store privacy label means

Apple asks every app to declare what it collects, from a fixed list of categories. Those categories are coarse, and one of ours reads far more alarmingly than what actually happens, so here is the plain mapping from each label to the real thing.

• Location — Coarse Location: this is the city you type, and nothing else. Dekar has no location permission, ships no location library, never reads your device’s position, and stores no coordinate anywhere. We could argue a city you typed yourself is not device location at all and leave the label off. We declare it because a city is location information however it was obtained, and we would rather over-declare than have you discover later that something was left out.
• Contact Info — Name, Email Address: what you signed in with.
• Contacts: the people you keep in Dekar, including any names and birthdays you chose to import.
• User Content — Other User Content: your notes, celebration preferences, circles, message drafts, and the words of your own birthday wish.
• Other Data:your own birthday — the month and day, and the year if you chose to add one.
• Identifiers — User ID: your account identifier, which is what links the rest to you.

Every one of these is declared as used for app functionality and linked to your identity, and none of it is used for tracking. Dekar carries no advertising, no analytics product, and no third-party tracking code, and shares nothing with data brokers.

How we use information

We use information to provide reminders and account sync; show information to people you intentionally share it with; operate circles and service activities; prevent abuse; provide support; improve reliability; and meet legal obligations. Dekar does not sell personal data or use private celebration information for behavioral advertising.

Reminders and message drafts

Birthday reminders are scheduled on your own device and are delivered by your operating system. Message drafts are assembled on your device from information you already supplied — a name, a stated celebration preference, and an age only when the birth year is known and shared. Your private notes are never used in a draft. Dekar does not send messages on your behalf: you edit the draft and choose where to send it.

Public circles and discovery

A circle is members-only unless its organiser makes it public, and they are told plainly what changes before they do. A public circle can be found in Discover by any signed-in Dekar member, by its name or by the city the organiser gave it, and it has an unlisted preview link that works without an account. What is visible is the circle’s name, description, city, how many members it has, and whether it is verified. Who is in the circle, and everything shared inside it, stays private. Finding a circle does not put you in it: you ask, the organiser decides, and one live request per circle means a declined request cannot be repeated at somebody.

Every public circle can be reported or hidden. Hiding one keeps it out of your search results for good. Reporting one reaches a person who reads reports, and the organiser is never told who reported them. An organiser may remove anyone from their circle at any time, without giving a reason; somebody removed cannot ask to join that circle again.

Your own birthday wish

Everything else in Dekar is a note the person holding the phone wrote about somebody else. A birthday wish is the opposite: it is yours, about you, in your words, and the people you send it to see it marked as coming from you rather than as their own guess.

It is shared only by an explicit link that you create and send. Each link works once and expires after two weeks. Opening a link shows nothing but the name of the person who sent it — not their birthday and not their wish, which are readable only inside the app after the recipient signs in and chooses which of their own people you are. Accepting replaces the note that recipient had written about you with your words, and keeps it current when you change it. It does not connect you to anyone else they know, does not give either of you access to the other’s people or private notes, and does not make either account visible in Discover.

Editing your wish updates it everywhere it has already been accepted, because those people read the current version rather than a copy of it. Clearing it removes the wish and your birthday from your account and stops any link nobody has opened yet from working. It does not delete the copy from somebody who already accepted: that copy is in their own records now, and a wish cannot be unsent any more than a message can. What stops is the live connection — their note stops updating and becomes an ordinary one of their own, which they can edit or delete themselves. An unaccepted link can simply be left to expire.

Sharing and service providers

Information is shared with other Dekar members only according to the circle and visibility choices you make. We may use trusted providers for hosting, authentication, email, notifications, diagnostics, and app distribution. Google and Apple process sign-in under their own policies, and Apple processes App Store subscription purchases under its policies. Charity, retailer, or government links open an external service; anything you submit there is governed by that service’s policy.

Retention and security

Account data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, Dekar removes your active account and associated user records. Limited security records or provider backups may remain temporarily where required for fraud prevention, legal obligations, or routine backup aging. We use access controls, encrypted connections, and database policies, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices

You can edit your information, change reminders, leave circles, and delete your account in the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, or object to processing of personal information. Contact us to make a request.

Age and international use

Dekar is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age required in a user’s country. Information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate, subject to appropriate protections and applicable law.

Changes and contact
